Gmail for iPhone offering access to non–Google email

Google has begun offering the chance to access non–Google email via its Gmail for iOS app.

The feature, which has long been a cornerstone of its app on Android, means users with Outlook, Yahoo or other major third party email will be able to access, read and respond to messages via Gmail.

It’s a function that is particularly handy for those with multiple work and personal accounts, especially as until now such users have had to use separate apps alongside Gmail.

There’s a catch, however. The feature is only available to those who sign up for a special Google trial via a page on the search giant’s website.

What’s more, you’ll need to already be a user of Gmail for iOS. So no downloading to try after you’ve signed up for the trial.

It’s not clear when the added feature will make its way to the official Gmail for iOS app. But hopefully the wait won’t be too long.
